Norfields Magnetic Therapy Products: Hoof Sock
Los
Angeles, CAA secret weapon at work behind the scenes for many lame horses is a
magnetic "bootie" that owners can strap onto a horses foot for periods of
time each day. Designed and marketed by Norfields, originators of many innovative magnetic
products for horses, the trick to this boot is that there is more than meets the eye. The
boot contains magnets, certainly, but an optional honeycomb frog-support sole pad directs
magnetic force to the underside of the hoof, while the "sock" magnets target the
wall. Available in small, medium, and large. Visit http://www.horsenet.com/norfields.
Old Mac's Multi Purpose Horse Boots
Australia--The latest entry in the high-tech horse boot market is from
Australia. Developed by farrier David MacDonald, the boot employs his Dual
Hoof Suspension (DHS) system, pairing high-tech materials like cushioning
high-density foam and waterproof cordura with leather. Visit www.oldmacs.com

Osha Products: Sans Sock soaks it up!
Hooray, no more bucket spills in the barn aisle! This insulated "bucket boot" keeps liquid hot or cold (hot for Epsom salt soaks, cold for ice).Velcro leg liner goes to the knee; add ice for a total lower leg chill. The horse can shift and even move on cross ties without any spills. You may consider buying a couple and soaking multiple feet. Different colors, different sizes, same great concept. Visit

Pad Clip
AUSTRALIA--Here in America, we take pads for granted and just live with
them; in other parts of the world, covering the bottom of the foot is a
last resort. The new Pad Clip from Australia holds a plastic pad inside
the shoe and can be popped out, spring-like, with the removal tool. There
are slots on the inside web of the shoe; an ingenious little invention to
create a medication shield or hospital plate using a variety of materials.

Pinehurst
Forge: Loop Knives
TasmaniaWatch

Pinehurst Forge have found their way to America and Europe in the past year or so, and are
highly collectible and sought-after. The searchers loop is like the eye of a needle
but the blade is sharp enough for the most delicate abscess probe. "Vet
searchers" and loop knives come in four blade designs of each. Dont lose yours;
its a long way to Tasmania to get Paul Mitchell to make you a replacement. Fax Billy

PP Plast: The Flip Flop Shoe
DENMARK--This shoe has certainly won more money than any other import;
the funny-looking "Flip Flop" shoe was worn two years in a row
by the winners of the Hambletonian Stakes, harness racing's most
prestigious event. These are pad-shoe combinations, worn in conjunction
with a 3/4 shoe cut at the heels. Look funny...work great, particulary on
a hard track like The Meadowlands in New Jersey, where the Hambletonian
was run. Now available in America from Ken Davis and Sons; vist www.ken-davis.com.
Quick Setting Stud Mount System
HOLLAND--Let's face it, stud holes are a nuisance for riders. They're
either full of dirt or a stud is stuck or the horse won't stand still and
the rider has wrench scars on her knees. QS Supplies of Holland has a web
site to show you that there is an alternative...but the huge Euro-style
jumping calks might take your breath away. Notice also the rocked-up toe
on the shoes. This is a great idea for trying out different stud types or
combinations. Riders may still need help. Visit www.qssupplies.nl
Santa Rita Epoxies: Farriers Putty
Phoenix, AZA versatile new
type of hoof-repair compound containing DuPont Kevlar is being promoted for filling nail
holes and hoof defects. The lightweight material is simple to use and stores conveniently
in a cigar-like tube. Kevin Fort, the manufacturer, also suggests that it can be used to
hold a shoe onto a foot. Email Kfortitude@aol.com
Summit
Tech: The Trimpod
Cranbury, NJFarrier Jay
Mickle has done it right, and created a beautifully crafted tool that is useful, as well.
This welded aluminum tripod holds a knife, nipper, and rasp and is perfect for trim-only
jobs...or the popular new "barefoot basics" un-shoeing. Email summittech@erols.com.
Summit Tech: The Designer Pad
Tim Helck from Summit Tech and Ray
Steele of Horseshoes Unlimited put their heads together and have made a base for shoe
designs from thick impact-resistant plastic. Cut it in the shape you need, then rivet on a
shoe, and voila: a stable base for frog or caudal support use, plus a shoe. Its
lightweight, would seem to be shock-absorbing, and the material is simple to use. Email summittech@erols.com
Thoro'Bred's Bevel Toe Grand Champion
ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA--Speaking of toes--and it seems like everyone is--Thoro'Bred
Racing Plate is lauching a new version of their ever-popular Grand
Champion Lite wide-web aluminum shoe. They've beveled the toe for you on
this hind pattern, but it works pretty well for front patterns on Quarter
horse/Paint/Appy feet. By the way, Thoro'Bred has been making the Grand
Champion line for 22 years; the first design was by Fresno, CA farrier
Reuel Darling in 1978. Aluminum shoes on hunters and jumpers didn't even

Vettech:
Equithane Hoof Pak
Oxnard, CAThis product was Big News in 1998, and
appears to be in no danger of losing its popularity in 1999. Hoof Pak looks a little like
jello, but is solid once it has set up. It is used as a support material under hoof pads,
replacing silicon-type products. Its applied through a gun so there is nothing to
mix. It goes in as a liquid, so it fills all the crevices and air pockets under the pad.
Sets up in 25 seconds. Visit http://www.vettec.com.
Vettech:
Equithane Equi-Build
Oxnard, CAThink of it as liquid dental impression
material. Like Hoof-Pak, it goes in liquid, and sets up in the hoof. The difference is
that this material requires no pad; in effect, it becomes a self-leveling pad. Used to
even load distribution, support the posterior part of the hoof, etc. Visit http://www.vettec.com
